Kentucky Democratic Party Elects Precinct Leaders

Kentucky Democratic Party Elects Precinct Leaders

Frankfort, April 7, 2008—Saturday April 5, across the Commonwealth, Democrats came out in large numbers to elect their local Precinct Leaders. Kentucky Democratic Party Chair (KDP) Jennifer Moore and Co-Chair Nathan Smith were among the thousands of Kentuckians who took part in this first step of the quadrennial process to reorganize the KDP.  Recognizing the importance of this grassroots activism, Moore ran for and was elected Precinct Woman in her Louisville precinct.

The Precinct Leaders elected on April 5 will come together Saturday, April 12 to elect Legislative District Executive Committees in Jefferson and Fayette Counties and County Executive Committees in the rest of the state.  On April 12, Precinct Leaders also elect Delegates to the Kentucky Democratic State Convention, to be held on June 7, 2008 in Lexington.  State Convention Delegates  elect members of the State Central Executive Committee, the governing authority of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

“Kentucky Democrats are energized more than ever this year and that was evident on Saturday when so many Democrats participated in the precinct conventions to help form the backbone of the Party ,” said Moore. “Democrats in Kentucky know that so many important issues, locally and nationally, are at stake this November; they’re excited to be part of this.”
